Shipshape in Brazilian Wax

No matter how painful Brazilian waxing could be, it is still becoming a fad across many countries. It is done mostly by women but some men do it, too. It is a common knowledge that waxing is the removal of body hair, but what is this so called Brazilian Wax and how long does a Brazilian Wax last?

Brazilian Wax also known as Full Brazilian Wax, Hollywood or Sphinx is the complete tearing of hair in the pelvic area, front and back, while sometimes leaving a thin strip of hair on the pubis.  It is the most famous among bikini waxes. If it involves the complete removal of all hair in the pelvic region, it is called as the Sphinx, a name derived from that of a smooth-skinned, hairless breed of cat from Canada. If a thin vertical strip of hair is left, it may be called a landing strip.

Upon coming across the term “Brazilian Waxing”, you may come to think that it originated from the country, Brazil. Yes, you are right on that. However, for centuries, it has been common place in many societies like Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and especially those in arid or desert predominantly Muslim and Arab countries. Aside from personal hygiene as a reason for such practice, one more reason is that women wanted to wear the thong bikinis.

Another reason for getting a Brazilian Wax is because of the benefit of having hair grow less quickly compared to having a shave. How long does a Brazilian wax last, anyway? It all depends on the hair re-growth rate of a person and this may vary. On the average, it may last for three to six weeks and the growth is minimal in the first two weeks. Though, this may become quicker during summertime as heat stimulates the growth of hair.

As mentioned earlier, men are also into male Brazilian wax. A little difference compared to sessions done in women is that in men Brazilian waxing, a sculpted patch above the penis will be left untouched since this area can be particularly sensitive to irritation.  A reason of men for opting Brazilian wax is to prevent the itchy ‘five o’clock shadow. Another reason is that athletes who join competitions with their body bare, such as swimmers prefer to have body wax. This is also getting popular among heterosexual males as it gets famous in the gay community.
